What's in the template

  • Header titled “Tax Invoice” with invoice number and date
  • Supplier and customer name, address and GSTIN
  • Place of supply, plus a Y/N switch for sale within the state or to another state
  • 10 item rows: description, HSN/SAC, quantity, rate, taxable value and GST %
  • Formulas for CGST, SGST, IGST, line totals, a totals row and a rounded grand total
  • Space for bank/UPI details, terms and the authorised signatory

How to use it

  • Download the file and save a copy for each invoice (for example INV-001.xlsx).
  • Replace the sample supplier details with your own once, then keep that as your master copy.
  • Enter the customer, place of supply and Y or N for same state.
  • Fill item rows. Leave unused rows empty — they total to zero.
  • Export to PDF from Excel or Google Sheets and send it to your customer.

Worked example

The sample row: 5 cotton shirts (HSN 6205) at ₹500 at 5% GST, sold within the state. Taxable value ₹2,500, CGST ₹62.50, SGST ₹62.50, total ₹2,625. Change the switch to N and it becomes IGST ₹125.

Where Excel falls short

A spreadsheet works for a few invoices a month. As you grow, you have to keep invoice numbers in sequence yourself, copy customer details by hand, and search through separate files to see who has paid.

BillBook is a one-time-purchase billing tool that runs in your browser and keeps your data on your own device. It numbers invoices automatically, saves customers, tracks payments and expenses, and exports PDFs.

GST rates and rules change. Please verify current rules with official government sources or your CA before filing.

Frequently asked questions

The template includes the fields GST invoices usually need: supplier and customer details, GSTIN, invoice number and date, place of supply, HSN/SAC, taxable value, tax split and signature. You are responsible for filling them correctly and checking them against current rules.

Yes. It is a standard .xlsx file with simple formulas, so it opens in Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice Calc.

Type Y in the “Same state as supplier?” cell for a sale within your state (tax is split into CGST and SGST), or N for a sale to another state (full IGST).
